Barnabas Ministry is a ministry of encouragement, in which trained individuals go into homes, assisted living centers, nursing homes, and hospitals to visit those who are no longer physically able to attend church. Typically, the ministers work in teams of two and visit those in need every other week. Another two person team visits on alternating weeks to insure the person receives ongoing weekly visits.
A visit consists of ten to fifteen minutes of general sharing, a time for Bible readings, a devotion, and prayer, followed by Holy Communion. The purpose of the visits is to keep one connected to the Body of Christ-letting them know they are loved and not forgotten. Though most visits probably last about half an hour, it is not unusual for those visits to become more extended as the friendships grow.
